Getting Ready (to go out out) Like a Mum

It’s obvious that getting ready to go out (out out, not just out to the park or to the shops) as a mum is a world away to the days sans kids (and a world away from the title picture of this post!), but a recent nightmarish getting ready experience has left me scarred – maybe you guys can relate and maybe even top me?!

Last weekend I was lucky enough to be invited by a friend to go and watch the final stage of the Tour of Britain cycling event in London, enjoying the race day action from the luxury of corporate hospitality. A day without kids, with good food, good company and a drop or two of wine – it was set to be bliss for this burnt out mama! But with that promise of bliss came the promise of getting ready stress.

Now, as this was a daytime event, I needed to get my shiz together by midday. Pre kids this would be a breeze; up at 10am, quick bite to eat, jump in the shower and then still have an hour to slip my then skinny self into something totally sick, snot and weetabix free and maybe put a swish of eyeshadow and mascara on my fresh, completely dark circle/stress spots, clear face. I would then swan off to the station ready for the day. Oh how I took that for granted!

Last bloody weekend was just ridiculous and I don’t even know how I made it out.

If it wasn’t bad enough having to layer make up on my tired mum face just to make it look (and make me feel) presentable and then spend a million hours working out what I could wear, I also had to be mum and do all my normal mum stuff. And being mum that day was full on!

My 8yr Old had rugby training and my 5year old had a birthday party which was 13miles away…..we are a one car family! So, after caking my face with make up (so so glad I had the foresight to do this early) and then herding everyone into the car, I drove Mr DaisLikeThese, my 8yr old and the dog to rugby, then got back in the car and drove my 5yr old to the party. Had to just drop him and go, drove back to rugby to pick the others up, only to discover that training is actually half an hour longer this year, gaaaaahhh! That gave me a grand total of 30minutes to drive back from rugby, get changed and do my hair.

Somehow I did it…I totally don’t know how. But I needed about an hour, and a sneaky can of G&T, for the adrenaline to calm down!

Yay!! We made it out!

Getting ready as a mum is tough, but I guess it makes the actual going out even more amazing, right? I’ll keep telling myself that next time I’m trying to find all components of a rugby/football/cricket kit and sort my hair at the same time, or putting mascara on whilst trying to find a missing toy (that cannot be found at any other time apart from now) or retrieving Baby DaisLikeThese from half way up the stairs repeatedly whilst trying on various items of clothing that probably don’t even fit any more!

Do you have any comedy/disaster/ridiculous getting ready stories? Even just to make me feel better!

Oh bless you! We very nearly missed the ceremony of my friend’s wedding because as we were ready to leave (already running late!) the baby decided to do a massive poo and we then got stuck behind a tractor (it was in the countryside) …nightmare. Your morning sounded crazy! My sister has teenagers and she’ always ferrying someone to football or majorettes or a school play rehearsal, I’m not looking forward to that. #chucklemums

Yep, having a very sporty kid definitely causes our weekends to be super busy…and he’s not even a teenager yet!!

Loved this for #Chucklemums, you’re a beaut! Gah it’s never just easy is it, you can never just GO. There’s always a drama and various children to be taken or picked up from somewhere meaning you have 10 mins to get ready. Glad you had a fab time, here’s to many more nights out! Thanks for linking xx

I was getting ready to go out recently and my friend’s husband was doing the school run, and he managed to get them back about 20 minutes ahead of my expectations. So I had to do the classic head hanging around the door thank you as I was only in my pants!! Thanks for linking up to #chucklemums
