Foodie Friday #6 – Cheesy Pastry Letters

Foodie Friday #6 – Cheesy Pastry Letters

Foodie Friday this week is super simple and totally kid friendly.

Xavi was sent home from school with the class cooking book this week and he chose a recipe for pastry numbers. We altered it slightly and made pastry letters instead. He wanted to take in each of his classmates’ first initial – which I thought was very sweet!

This is a super simple recipe, all you need is:

  • Roll of pre-made shortcrust pastry
  • some cheddar cheese – grated
  • some cookie cutters. We used letter shapes but you could use what ever you have.

Preheat the oven to 200 degrees.

First we unrolled the pastry sheet and the boys then sprinkled grated cheese on to one half of it.

We folded it over and used a rolling pin to roll it out, pressing the cheese in as we did so. We folded and rolled a few times to make sure the cheese was incorporated into the pastry.

Then the boys set to work on using the cookie cutters to create the letter shapes. We had a class list to work from, making sure each child had a letter. We also made their names and some twists with the leftover pastry!

We popped them into the oven for 10minutes and TAH DAH:

Our Review:

Xavi: I loved them, they were very tasty and my friends liked them too. 5/5

Freddie: It was fun making them and I loved eating my own name at dinner time! 5/5

This was a great, simple recipe and loads of fund for the kids. Xavi totally loved taking these in to school and handing them out at home time. I am not quite sure each letter made it to the correct recipient – but the thought was there!
