BSpa at Brooklands Hotel: The perfect Mum’s Day Off

They say you can’t pour from an empty cup, and it’s no secret that parents very often do just that. Like most mums, I am guilty of neglecting myself whilst concentrating on the day-to-day stresses of family life. My new years resolution, therefore, was to spend a bit more time looking after myself so that I can be on top form to look after everyone else. And so when I was offered the opportunity to have a girly and child free day off enjoying the spa at our luxurious local hotel, Brooklands Hotel, I jumped at the chance!

With visions of spa treatments, hot tubs, and a delicious lunch, my friend Angel and I were relishing the thought of a mum’s day off. With six kids and two dogs between us, we thoroughly needed it!

We’re very lucky to have the Brooklands Hotel on our doorstep in Weybridge, Surrey. This beautifully modern hotel sits within the course of the historic Brooklands race track (in fact the course of the old race track is mapped through the reception area) and overlooks both Mercedes-Benz World and the Brooklands Museum. The motoring and aviation history of the area is reflected in the decor throughout the hotel; with sleek polished chrome propellers, vintage car models, and framed memorabilia dotted all around.

As well as a large selection of deluxe hotel rooms and extensive business facilities, there is also the 1907 Bar and Restaurant, and the spa which are both open to non hotel guests – perfect for locals like us looking for a quick luxury escape, or for local families wanting to enjoy a meal out.

So, on a crisp weekday morning after the school run, babies safely delivered to their grandmas, we arrived at the Brooklands Hotel ready for a day of pampering and relaxation. We were warmly welcomed at the reception and directed up to BSpa which sits on the third floor.

I loved the lighting and artwork hanging in the vast reception area.

We checked in at the spa reception and were shown to a table in a cosy seated area. Each table was decorated with a personalised sign, and it was here that we could come if we wanted to order any drinks or snacks, and where we would be eating our lunch later. We sat and filled out the all important health questionnaires and were also given a menu to choose our lunch option. It was great to get these technicalities out of the way early so that we could truly relax and unwind.

We had a few hours before our lunch and treatments started so, after changing into our complimentary robes and slippers, we headed straight to the lounge area, which has a selection of loungers and small sofa areas where you can kick back with a good book, or one of the magazines provided. It was lovely to have a girly catch up without little ones to attend to!

Despite being a blustery and chilly February morning we headed on out to the newly updated hot tub which is positioned on a large terrace area, overlooking all the action on the Mercedes-Benz World race track. As there is no pool at the hotel, the hot tub is obviously a popular destination for hotel and spa guests. Thankfully it was a quiet time when we were visiting and we had plenty of room to stretch out and enjoy.

It was a tad windy!

Next we headed into the Meditation Room. I had heard amazing things about this little room, filled with three beautifully warm water beds, and couldn’t wait to try them out! As the room is popular, and can only accommodate three at a time, guests need to book a 20 minute time slot at reception. When we arrived for our time slot the room was unfortunately not ready, with the sheets on two of the three beds having not been changed after the last users. We flagged down a passing member of staff who apologised and efficiently changed our beds and offered to get us a drink. We settled down into the warm and cozy beds, and with dimmed lights and gentle background music, were soon drifting off into a pleasant relaxed nap. I could have totally slept there for hours, but alas after 20 minutes we needed to make way for the next set of guests to have their turn in this beautifully relaxing space.

Angel and I both agreed that the Meditation Room was one our favourite parts of the spa, as it encourages nothing but pure relaxation. Busy mums very often don’t switch off, but with dimmed lights you can’t read a magazine, and with other guests resting nearby you can’t chat away so you are forced to relax, which is just what we needed!

Feeling completely chilled out, we headed off for our lunch. The spa has its own small dining area, so you don’t even need to change out of your comfy robe to enjoy your meal, bonus! The food comes from the 1907 restaurant downstairs and the spa has a small menu of paninis, sandwiches, burgers and salads. Various items, such as the panini and sandwiches, are included in the spa day cost but other items are subject to a supplement. I went for the Ruben panini, with salt beef and sauerkraut, and Angel had a mozzarella and tomato panini (which wasn’t technically on the menu, but the kitchen kindly fulfilled her request!). Unfortunately there was a bit of a mix up with my order, and another guest and I received each others food, but didn’t notice before taking a bite! The staff member who had made the mix up couldn’t have been more apologetic and offered us a glass of prosecco by way of apology, which was a lovely touch.

The food was tasty and very filling, which for me was perfect considering I had been up with the kids since 5.30am and was in much need of something substantial. However, we did notice that there was not a big selection of lighter, healthier options which some guests may prefer.

After lunch we had half an hour to kill before our treatments so we decided to use the steam room and sauna. The sauna was undergoing some maintenance so we just spent some time in the steam room, and with a lovely eucalyptus scent, my skin certainly felt very refreshed and got a lovely zing!

It was time to head off for our treatments; I was having a 50 minute facial and Angel a 50 minute massage. After suffering with an array of skin problems since having kids, a facial was very much-needed. But I have to admit that I was quite envious of Angel’s massage, I am a big fan of a good massage!

Once in my relaxing and beautifully scented treatment room, my therapist asked if there were any areas of concern or areas that I wanted to concentrate on so I explained my recurrent breakouts and resulting scars and blemishes. An array of fabulous Caudalie products were used, including a much needed deep cleansing exfoliator and a complexion correcting serum. And I needn’t have worried about missing out on a massage as this facial had a great massage element to it; concentrating on the face, neck, shoulders and arms. It was more than I could have expected and being a tired mum, I have to admit to falling asleep a few times during the treatment!

Angel also had a lovely experience in a very calming treatment room, and said that her masseuse was communicative and listened to what she wanted out of the massage. She was also treated to some fantastic scented Caudalie products for her massage and came away feeling relaxed.

And so it was time for our spa day to end, and back to reality. We certainly had a lovely day at the Brooklands Hotel and Spa, and feel lucky to have discovered such a gem right on our doorstep! Despite not having a pool, or large facilities, the treatments and the quality of the products rightfully took centre stage. Not only is this spa a great place to spend a whole day, but local mums like us can easily sneak here during the school day and will certainly be able to fit in everything (like we did!).

Disclosure: We were invited to the Brooklands Hotel & Spa in return for an honest review. As always, all opinions are my own .

I’ve been to Brooklands a couple of times and love it there – we’ve stayed both times so I’ve had the added bonus of wandering down from my room in my robe! The hot tub was too full for me to try last time so I’m a bit envious but I had the best treatment and relaxation session.

It sounds as though the staff were very responsive when things weren’t quite as they ought to have been. Great write-up. x

That sounds amazing! It’s not easy to really switch off and relax when you’re a mum.. I think I could spend all day in the meditation room!

The meditation room looks fantastic – I love that you can book it privately and you aren’t interrupted by doors opening and closing and people coming and going which often happens – I bet you felt properly relaxed x
